In a landmark display of royal protocol and inter-traditional solidarity, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, has paid his inaugural visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, the Emir of Ilorin.
The visit, which took place in Ilorin, followed the long-established tradition that requires a visiting monarch to formally pay homage to the presiding traditional ruler of the host domain.
The gesture underscored the enduring respect, unity and cooperation that define relations among Nigeria’s traditional institutions.
EMPEROR TV reports, Receiving the Alaafin in his palace, the Emir of Ilorin hosted the visit in his capacity as the Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs and the state’s senior traditional authority.
The engagement was particularly historic, marking the first official meeting between the incumbent Alaafin of Oyo and the Emir of Ilorin since the ascension of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I to the revered Oyo throne. The visit has been widely regarded as a reaffirmation of cultural ties and peaceful coexistence among traditional stools in the country.
