The Federal Government has announced a significant upward review of the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport, with the new rates set to begin on September 1, 2025.
According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the decision was made to maintain the standard, quality, and integrity of the nation’s travel document ahead of the full rollout of the upgraded Nigerian Standard Passport in September 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, NIS spokesman A.S. Akinlabi confirmed that the review applies only to applications made within Nigeria.
He explained that the revised fees would be ₦100,000 for a 32-page passport with five years’ validity and ₦200,000 for a 64-page passport valid for 10 years.
However, passport application fees for Nigerians abroad will not be affected by the new policy.
Applicants in the diaspora will continue paying $150 for the 32-page passport (five years validity) and $230 for the 64-page passport (10 years validity).
“The adjustment is aimed at strengthening the quality of passport services and ensuring Nigerians continue to receive a secure and reliable travel document,” Akinlabi stated.
The Immigration Service emphasized that while the increase may appear steep, it remains committed to providing efficient service delivery.
The agency further assured Nigerians that accessibility to passport services will remain a top priority despite the new pricing structure
