APC NEC Appoints Minister Yilwatda Nentawe as Substantive Party Chairman
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Yilwatda Nentawe, as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
The appointment was announced during the party’s 14th NEC meeting, which held on Thursday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, moved the motion for Nentawe’s appointment. It was immediately seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.Following the approval, Nentawe was sworn in at exactly 2:50 pm in the presence of senior party members, government officials, and stakeholders attending the NEC session.
His emergence as chairman brings an end to the speculation surrounding the leadership of the APC, following recent changes and interim arrangements within the party’s national structure.Yilwatda Nentawe, a native of Plateau State in the North Central region, was the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections. Though unsuccessful at the polls, he remained an influential figure within the party.
Until his new role, he served as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, a position he is now expected to vacate in line with party leadership responsibilities.
