Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, marking a significant shift within Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Confirming the development, his Aide, Abdul Rasheeth, said the the registration was completed on Monday, days after Atiku informed ADC supporters and political stakeholders in Adamawa of his decision to join the party.
Videos and photographs from the ceremony captured Atiku’s arrival in a convoy welcomed by jubilant supporters. Many were seen beating drums, singing, and waving placards bearing his image as the former vice president acknowledged their cheers from his vehicle.
Atiku was thereafter presented with his ADC membership card, formally sealing his entry into the coalition-driven party.
His move comes months after he publicly endorsed the ADC in July as a viable platform for opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, to forge a united front against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 polls.
