The Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State branch, has suspended its three-day warning strike for two weeks following the intervention of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The development was contained in a statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairperson, Mrs. Medinat Adebisi, and Secretary, Ms. Tolulope Oniyide, and a copy made available to Sobi FM today.
According to the association, the suspension followed a meeting between the state government and the striking officers, during which their demands were presented to the governor for immediate consideration.
“The decision to suspend the strike was taken after the intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, who has shown genuine concern for our plight,
“Our demands have now been brought directly to the attention of the Governor, and we have received assurances of prompt action,” the statement added.
The association’s demands include “payment of the outstanding 50% of the 2020 furniture allowance, payment of the 2024 furniture allowance, and payment of the 2024 and 2025 wardrobe allowances.”
They also called for “the harmonization of the salaries of State Counsel with their Magistrate counterparts, elongation of retirement age to 65 years, access to car loans, and improved welfare packages.”
The association further appealed to the government to provide better working conditions, saying: “Our work environment and facilities need urgent attention. We also seek improved entry level into service at Grade Level 10, as obtained in many states.”
The association had embarked on the three-day warning strike on Monday, citing the state government’s “failure to respond to its 14-day ultimatum and address longstanding welfare issues.”
The association said it will reconvene after two weeks to review developments and determine its next course of action.
