The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared that it did not approve the admission of a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Basola Jamiu Owodunni, whose records it said were not found in its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).JAMB made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday signed by its Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, following Basola’s viral social media claim that the board invalidated his admission seven years after he began his studies.Basola said he wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2017 and was admitted into FUTA in 2018 to study Civil Engineering, graduating in 2024 with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.41.He narrated that trouble began after his final clearance when FUTA’s student affairs office informed him that his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation was rejected.According to Basola, he was advised to check the JAMB matriculation list, only to find his admission tagged as fake. He added that he could not access his JAMB portal despite several attempts. In a further attempt to resolve the issue, Basola said he visited the JAMB office but was shocked when he was told he should be handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for investigation. He said he eventually reported to the DSS and police, where he was detained for several hours before being released through a friend’s intervention.Basola also claimed that a FUTA admission officer presented documents at the police station, confirming that the university had recommended him for admission through the proper channels.Despite this, he said he had written to FUTA’s registrar, vice-chancellor, and admission committee chairman, but there had been no clear action taken on his case.In response, JAMB insisted that while Basola may have attended FUTA, he was not recognised in its records, and his admission did not follow due process, making him ineligible for NYSC mobilisation and other official recognitions.
