FG Denies Closure of Nigerian Embassy in Iran, Says Working with Armenia to Facilitate Evacuation
The Federal Government has debunked reports claiming that the Nigerian Embassy in Iran has been shut down, leaving Nigerian citizens stranded amid the escalating Iran-Israel conflict.
In a statement issued Saturday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government described the viral claims as false and misleading, assuring that the Embassy in Tehran remains operational.While confirming that the ongoing bombings in Tehran have disrupted regular office operations, the Ministry noted that staff are working remotely to continue providing support to Nigerians in the country.
In a reassuring move, the Ministry announced that arrangements for safe passage through Armenia have reached an advanced stage, following diplomatic engagement between Nigerian and Armenian officials.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, Dr. Abdulrasheed Omar Lawal, met with Armenia’s Acting Director for Middle East and Africa, Mr. Levon Petrosyan, to formally request safe evacuation for Nigerians in distress.
