Tinubu Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Six APC Governors Amid Rising Insecurity
President Bola Tinubu on Monday met behind closed doors with six governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the State House, Abuja.
The governors arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 4:00 pm for the meeting, which lasted less than an hour.
No official briefing was given after the discussions, and the Presidency has yet to release details of what was discussed. The agenda of the meeting also could not be immediately ascertained.
Those in attendance were the governors of Jigawa, Umar Namadi; Edo, Monday Okpebholo; Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji; Kogi, Usman Ododo; Sokoto, Aliyu Sokoto; and Kebbi, Nasir Idris.
The meeting comes at a time Nigeria is grappling with renewed security challenges, including a wave of abductions targeting schoolchildren and worshipers in parts of the North-West and North-Central.
Several of the states represented, Kebbi, Sokoto and Kogi, have endured banditry and kidnap-for-ransom attacks in recent months, triggering heightened cooperation between federal and state authorities on intelligence sharing and rural security operations.
The talks also follow Tinubu’s recent declaration of a nationwide security emergency and the reshuffling of the Defence Ministry, as the administration seeks greater support from foreign partners. When approached after the meeting, the governors declined to speak to journalists.
